It has been my custom for two decades now to begin many days, if not most, with a particular verse of scripture. This delicious morsel of truth has nourished me and energized me, like a power breakfast, to start the day. Here it is:
“This is the day the LORD has made;
We will rejoice and be glad in it” (NKJV).
The psalmist seems to be inviting us to realize that today is a gift from God. The same God, who created the world and all there is, also created today in all it is. Today is a gift to you from Almighty God. Receive it with joy! Rejoice in it! Even if not everything goes your way, still learn to enjoy today in every sort of way!
If you will heed scripture’s admonition to begin each day with the Lord and experience the day with Him, then the Lord will lift you, in time, to a higher level of enjoyment and enrichment of life. Remember the words of Jesus regarding His disciples, “I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly” (John 10:10 NJKV).
Learn to share your days with Him and give your praise to Him. If you will raise your praise, He will bless your days! It is true—and it is that simple.
How so? For example, He will give you a greater enjoyment of the simple things of life. He will enable you to enjoy laughter, nature, music, prayer, family, friendships, play, work, sharing, reading, relaxing and, in general, living!
Another example, He will give you a deeper passion for doing loving things for others in life. Jesus taught us to love by His teachings and example. Luke tells us: “He (Jesus) went around doing good” (Acts 10:38). Indeed, He did!
Jesus visited the sick, healed the hurting, fed the hungry, prayed for the needy, encouraged the hopeless, showed love to the rejected, and shined the light of truth to those in darkness. Today, if we will, we can do the same kind of things still. We may not be empowered to do some of those things, but we can all do loving things. We can send someone an encouraging note or message. We can make a supportive phone call. We can offer a smile and reassuring look. We can listen. We can speak a positive word. Give comfort to one who has suffered a loss or serious setback. Visit a hospital or assisted living facility. Do a chore for your spouse. Give your children a hug and maybe more quality time. Invite someone to church. Tell someone about Jesus.
Learning to live means learning to love. The more you love, the more you enjoy life. Jesus not only gives us life; He gives us the ability to enjoy life. So today: Enjoy Life to the Glory of God!
Have a good day,
Pastor Ron
