A Channel of Blessing

One of my favorite devotional writers, Warren Wiersbe, shared the following story: In 1930, King George V of England was set to deliver an important live radio broadcast. But minutes before the broadcast, someone tripped over a chord in the CBS radio studio in New York City and over a million radios went silent. A young mechanic named Harold Vivian quickly fixed the problem. He picked up both ends of the cable and allowed the current to pass through his body. It was low voltage, but still his arms shook from the current. However, he hung on long enough for the King’s message to be heard by a listening audience.

Wiersbe goes on to say that it is a powerful image for us… He is right! Think about it—The King of kings is speaking and He wants to broadcast His message of hope and salvation through us. The question is: Are you willing to be a channel through which others can hear His message?

Jesus made clear our calling in scripture. He said, “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses…” (Acts 1:8). In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus said to those who were His disciples, “You are the salt of the earth…You are the light of the world…” (Matthew 5:13-14).

It may be that the most important thing you can do this week is to share with a friend about Jesus. Aren’t you glad that someone who crossed paths with you in your past chose to be a witness? Perhaps, now it is time for you to share with another the Good News!

Let me make a suggestion. Begin your witness with your testimony. Share what Jesus has meant to you. Then invite them to church with you. Most people come to know the Lord after sitting under the convicting work of the Word of God and the Holy Spirit of God. Usually this process involves time…So be patient and be prepared, at times, to answer questions. The Holy Spirit will guide you. Others in the Church Family will be a witness alongside you. You will plant seeds and others will water, but in time, God will make the increase! Then you will know that whatever efforts you gave to this and however long it may have taken for this, it was worth it all to see someone come to know Jesus and have a life-changing experience of grace.

So pray today that God will place on your heart someone who needs your witness. Then you become the channel of blessing…

Devotedly yours,
Pastor Ron
