Have you ever noticed how your outlook in life changes over time, as you get older and a bit wiser? I read about an airline passenger who told his seatmate after take-off, “Time sure changes things. Do you see that lake down there? When I was a young boy, I used to go out on it in a rowboat and fish. Occasionally, as a plane flew over I would wish I were in it. Now I am in the plane and I wish I were down there fishing.”
It is true. Life has a way of changing your perspective. For example, when you are young you tend to think that life is in getting and gaining. However, as your mindset matures, you realize that life is found not in getting and gaining but in giving and sharing.
I love what Jesus teaches! He says that you find life in losing it; you gain life by giving it. Remember His words: “Whoever loses his life for me will find it” (Matthew 16:25). When we give our lives to follow Jesus in His life and service, we are promised a rewarding and fulfilling life. This is where you find life in the giving of your life. When you give your life to Christ and His Kingdom work, you find a rich and meaningful life like nothing you can know otherwise.
William Barclay said, “There are two great days in a person’s life—the day you are born and the day you discover why.” You were born to live for Jesus. This is where life finds fulfillment. May God’s grace teach us daily to live selflessly and sacrificially to God’s glory!
Devotedly yours,
Pastor Ron
