A Sunday School teacher showed her children some objects from nature and shared with them about God’s handiwork. She pointed to a leaf that was delicately veined and said, “God made this leaf.” One of the small children in her class said, “You mean God was here and I missed Him!”
In reality, we often do miss Him! Our lives become so preoccupied with routine activities that we neglect to take the time to sense His presence. As a result, our lives are diminished by activities which squeeze from us an awareness of His presence. Sadly, often times we are not disturbed by this…
In Exodus, Moses came down from the mountain of God and discovered the people of Israel had rebelled against God. You remember how they sinned with the golden calf and their idolatrous worship. Well, immediately, Moses rebuked the people and brought them to repentance. Then he sought forgiveness from God for the sinfulness of the Israelites. After God heard the plea of Moses, He relented from the punishment and pledged they could still enter the Promised Land. But then, God dropped a bombshell when He said they would go without Him (Exodus 33:3). Upon hearing this, Moses told the Lord that if God did not go then they did not want to go. That is how important the presence of God was to Moses! One of my favorite passages in Exodus is when God promised He would go with them as Moses had asked. The Lord said to Moses, “I will do the very thing you have asked, because I am pleased with you and I know you by name” (Exodus 33:17).
Let this serve to remind us all of how important is the promise of God’s presence in our lives. We really do not want to walk into the future without Him. So never take for granted the presence of God in your life. Treasure His daily presence. Take time to spend with Him! Here is the secret to victorious living!
Devotedly yours,
