Once there was a Flight Attendant who was finally able to fly to Europe for a long-awaited vacation. Because of her position, she was allowed to fly first class without any cost to her. However, in flight, an emergency arose which caused the flight crew to be in need of an additional Flight Attendant. Well, the vacationing
Flight Attendant, upon hearing the dilemma, volunteered to assist, even though she was on a vacation flight to Europe. She was happy to fill-in, under the circumstances, and provide the help that was needed.
The Flight Attendant was not serving to get to Europe; the trip was already provided for her. It was part of the package given to Flight Attendants for this airline. However, in her case, she was glad to serve because she was grateful for the benefit that enabled her to fly to Europe no cost to her. Therefore, her service was an expression of joy and not one of complaint.
As Christians, we do not serve so that we might be saved. We serve because of joy since we have been saved. We do not serve so that we might somehow earn a trip to Heaven. We serve out of gratitude for the free gift of Heaven that we have already received.
Jesus once washed the disciples’ feet and then told them to serve others in like fashion. He added to the words of instruction, “Now that you know these things, you will be blessed if you do them” (John 13:17). Thus, serving is a joyous thing! It is born of joy and, in turn, brings us joy!
This coming Sunday, October 16, we will celebrate service with our church’s Ministry Fair. This will follow our 11:00 am Worship Service & Bible Study Hour and will begin in our Dining Area & Gym at 12:30 pm. There will be lots of food, fun and fellowship. More importantly, you will have the opportunity to walk among the booths, which represent our numerous and diverse ministries at FBC Pompano. You will discover so many great ministry opportunities! This will be an exciting day in our Church! See you there!
Devotedly yours,
Pastor Ron
