You have probably heard the expression, “An apple a day keeps the doctor away.” I like that and I love apples. They are both delicious and nutritious. However, when I was a kid I used to go every year to the Louisiana State Fair where I would get a candied apple. You probably know what that is. They take the apple and dip it into liquid sugar. The problem is that when you do so, the nutritional value of an apple ceases to exist. By mixing the apple with the sugar, the value disappears. No longer will the apple help me, now it will actually hurt me.
When you mix a life of faith with our culture’s misplaced values, then you cancel the positive affect of a life of faith. That is what the Bible calls being double-minded and it leads to an unstable life. Scripture admonishes us to live our faith fully and enjoy the benefits completely! It warns us, as well, to do so prudently.
“Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord’s will is” (Ephesians 5:15-17).
The same Lord who provided forgiveness for your sins will bring fulfillment in your life. You have to learn to trust Him with your entire life to find true fulfillment in life. You can trust Him—Taste and see that the LORD is good! (Psalm 34:8). Like a delicious red apple—enjoy!
Devotedly yours,
Pastor Ron
