After thanksgiving, we have some leftovers in our house. How about you? I also have something left-over I want to say today to you. Now that Thanksgiving is over, what should we do? I would suggest this to you: Keep on Thanksgiving! We need to learn to always give thanks. Scripture instructs the Christian not to have a season of thanksgiving but a spirit of thanks living! “Always giving thanks to God the Father for everything in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ” (Ephesians 5:20).
He begins with the words “Always giving thanks.” Something you would “always” do indicates this is something normal to do. This is the normal Christian life (Watchman Nee). The concept of thanksgiving has at its heart the idea of grace. God has blessed us with life eternal; therefore, to say thanks is only natural. It’s just normal…For the Christian, there is not a season of thanksgiving because we have every reason for thanksgiving. Thus, it should be never-ending. Every day is Thanksgiving Day for the Christian.
Ralph Waldo Emerson once said that if the stars came out only one night a year, everybody would stay up all night to look at them. Since they come out every night, we seldom give them a second look. Even so, since we are around our material possessions, the good things of our life, and loved ones all the time, we seldom give them a second glance. Maybe we need to look around at our life. Then thank God for what we do have. Let the blessings we enjoy today be a source of joy every day. Thanksgiving reminds us to really see how blessed we are! Think about it!
