Jesus Never Changes

Someone introduced me to a woman awhile back who was 101 years old. As we were sitting there, making small talk, I told her she looked good for her age. Frankly, my comment seemed a bit awkward at the time, but I did not know what to say. Anyway, I pressed on and said to her, “You have seen a lot of changes in your lifetime” and that began an interesting conversation…

Think about it: In her lifetime going back 50 years earlier, there were no laptops, smart phones, or tablets. Then going back another 50 years to her early days, there were no televisions, central air conditioning, washing machines, or refrigerators. Even airplanes had taken off (so to speak) just a few years before (December 17, 1903).

So when you think about it, a lot has changed in recent years of history. If you don’t believe it ask Siri, Alexa, or check w/ Google. I think we all welcome many of these changes, but here is the thing—In a world of change we need to know there are some things which never change…

We need to know that when we put our feet down in the morning there is solid ground. We need to know when we step outside there is air to breathe. We need to know when we look around there is still a sunrise and sunset. We need to know that just as there was a yesterday, there will be a tomorrow.

We need some things to remain the same and never change. By the way, the Bible doesn’t promise all these things will remain the same but it does promise Jesus will never change. The Bible says—
“Jesus is the same yesterday and today and forever” (Hebrews 13:8).

We have all known people who are good and then they are not. They seem to be truthful and then they prove to be less than truthful. They appear to be faithful and then they show themselves to be anything but faithful. Sadly, for whatever reason, these good people change and suddenly they are not so good.

However, Jesus is always good. He is like a rock when it comes to His character. We know that to be true. Even His enemy said of Him, “I find no fault in him” (John 18:38). Who among us today would claim differently?  David said (3000 years ago) “Taste and see that the LORD is good” (Psalm 34:8). I can testify today He is still good; He is nothing but good and He is good all the time.

Here is something else that is true: He will always do what is good for you. Whatever He says—whatever He does—it is always good. Jesus never changes! You can count on that! You can count on Him! Jesus is the One you can trust!

Devotedly yours,
Pastor Ron
