One of my great privileges in life is to share God’s Word, as your Pastor, on Sundays (Sermons) & Wednesdays (In-depth Bible Study). This gives me great joy! We love God’s Word at FBC Pompano and enjoy these learning opportunities. In addition, we study the Bible, as a Church Family, in small groups on Sundays and other days and nights during the week. We do this because we highly treasure God’s Word and believe in the power of God’s truth in the human experience. God’s word says—
“The law from your mouth is more precious to me than thousands of pieces of silver and gold” (Psalm 119:72).
“For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit…” (Hebrews 4:12).
“The law of the Lord is perfect, reviving the soul” (Psalm 19:7).
Indeed, God’s word is powerful. God’s word is—
Compelling – It moves our soul like no other book. It touches our heart like no other read.
Comforting – It strengthens us when we are weak, consoles us when we weep, lifts us when we are down; encourages us when we are sad, calms us when we are anxious, and emboldens us when we are afraid.
Convicting - It takes us from condemnation to salvation. It brings us from darkness and into the light, from death to life. It liberates us from the prison of our guilt to the freedom of forgiveness.
Conquering - It walks us from the valley of despondency to the mountaintop of victory. It brings us through our final conflict and to our eternal triumph.
My words are not adequate to describe the greatness and power of God’s Word. However, know this: For the Word of God to be transforming, you have to not only get into it, but also allow it to get into you!
When you read the Bible, do not skim over the surface or race through the experience. Slow down enough to see the depths of God’s life changing book. Take some time to ponder the meaning and understand how it applies to your life. Never sit through a sermon or group study without asking God what He is teaching you and what changes He would like in you. Practice meditation and application of God’s Word! Pray as the psalmist, “Open my eyes that I may see wonderful things in your law” (Psalm 119:18). If daily you will see it and apply it, your life will be changed by it. I promise!
Devotedly yours,
Pastor Ron
