“The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth” (John 1:14).
I am excited to begin a new series this week from the Gospel of John called MEET JESUS. I love the Gospel of John! Here’s why: It introduces us to Jesus, the Son of God. We find here that Jesus came to earth, the Shekinah glory of God veiled in human flesh, the embodiment of the power and presence of God on earth. Indeed, He alone is the pre-existent Son of God incarnate in human flesh. Two thousand years ago, Jesus was deity on foot walking on this earth.
So for the next few months I will devote my preaching to a journey through the Gospel of John, following the life and miraculous ministry of Jesus. We will walk with Him along the grassy hillsides of Galilee. Sail with him across the Sea of Galilee. Travel with Him and the disciples as they traverse the countryside of Judah. Watch closely as He turns water into wine. Listen carefully as He tells Nicodemus how to be born again. Sit with Him as He shares the water of life with the woman at the well. Stand in awe beside Him as he heals the Royal Official’s son and then observe Him help a lame man beside the Pool of Bethesda. Gather with the crowd as He turns a small boy’s lunch into a feast for five thousand. Gaze with wonder as He walks across the waves of a storm. See Him restore sight to a blind man and then hear Him shout “Lazarus, come forth!” Linger with him in the Garden of Gethsemane. Follow Him as He slowly ascends Golgotha. Picture Him hanging upon a cruel Roman cross. Run with the followers to the empty tomb. Cry out with Thomas “My Lord and my God!” at our resurrected Lord. Assemble with the disciples as they observe Jesus ascend into heaven. Then, finally, look up for Him to return from heaven with the sound of the trumpet and a shout of triumph!
Pray for me as I prepare to turn our thoughts to Jesus…My desire, from this series, is that we might all know Him better, love Him deeper and trust him greater. We begin this Sunday with the message MEET JESUS: THE SON OF GOD (John 1:1-14, 29). Worship services are 9:30 am (Classic) & 11:00 am (Contemporary). See you then; invite a friend!
Devotedly yours,
Pastor Ron
